A Process of EngagementThis art installation was in the Cube at Visual Art Exchange (VAE) in Raleigh, July - August, 2013. It included nearly 1,000 small paintings on paper, each available for $1 donation to VAE. The installation changed on Friday, July 5th at the 1st Friday Gallery Walk. Viewers became collectors, taking home more than 196 paintings. New pieces filled empty spaces, so the installation evolved throughout the evening and a different version emerged by the end of the event. More paintings were installed in July, replenishing the design. On Friday, August 2nd, the 1st Friday Gallery Walk the piece evolved again. This time the paintings weren't replaced and the installation began to dissolve into empty space. Viewers were able to continue removing pieces in August. Viewers contributed more than $440 (collecting 400+ paintings). The remaining paintings were taken down to create a final composition and then all the pieces disappeared on August 23, making way for the next artist's Cube installation.
